F TECHNICAL DETAILSF
Yarn-dyed fabrics
A woven fabric is a textile material produced by interlacing two perpendicular sets of yarns: the warp (longitudinal yarns parallel to the fabric edge) and the weft (transverse yarns running from selvedge to selvedge). The pattern in which the weft yarns pass alternately over and under the warp yarns is called the weave structure—it determines the appearance, density, tensile strength, and hand of the finished fabric.
Woven fabrics are an excellent choice for formal and shirt apparel for three reasons: dimensional stability (less transverse stretch than knits), precision in cutting during sewing (edges do not curl), and compatibility with technical finishes (Easy Care, Liquid Ammonia, mercerization). Knits (jersey, interlock) are formed by looping a single yarn and exhibit multidirectional elasticity—woven fabrics maintain garment shape and accept pressing better.
The weave structure is a fundamental technical parameter of a fabric. Sapor Textile offers woven fabrics in 7 production weaves:
| Fabric Type | Structure | Characteristics | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poplin | Plain weave (1/1) with rib effect | Smooth, lightweight, classic line—transverse rib visible | Formal shirts m/w, blouses |
| Twill 2/1 / 3/1 | Diagonal (twill) | Diagonal line, soft drape, resilient hand | Casual, work shirts, slim-fit |
| Satin / Sateen | Satin weave—long weft floats | Luster on the right side, soft surface | Premium blouses, evening shirts |
| Oxford / Royal Oxford | Basket weave (2/2) | Visible basket texture, durable, wrinkle-resistant | Corporate apparel, tenders |
| Herringbone | Zigzag twill | Herringbone creates a pattern without printing—woven effect | Winter shirts, spring apparel |
| Flannel | Plain/twill + brushing | Single- or double-sided brushed fabrics, soft | Seasonal shirts, casual |
Plain weave (Poplin, plain weave) is the densest and most stable weave—each weft yarn interlaces with each warp yarn in a 1/1 pattern, resulting in minimal susceptibility to deformation. Twill weave offers a softer hand due to longer yarn floats, while satin weave (sateen) exposes weft yarns on the surface, creating a natural luster without additional finishing.
Solid fabrics (solid, piece-dyed)—fabric woven from raw or bleached yarn, then piece-dyed as a uniform color across the entire width and length. Full Pantone dyeing available (min. 1,000 meters per color). These constitute the majority of Sapor Textile’s shirt collection in 100% Co and CVC—all colors mercerized before dyeing.
Yarn-dyed fabrics—stripes, checks, dobby, and herringbone woven directly from pre-dyed yarns. The pattern penetrates the entire thickness of the yarn—color fastness higher than in printing. Availability at Sapor Textile:
