What is TC (polycotton) fabric for workwear?

Workwear fabric with a composition of 35% cotton / 65% polyester – referred to as TC or polycotton – is the most popular work material in the PPE industry. It combines the hygroscopicity of cotton with the hydrophobicity and abrasion resistance of polyester, and its shrinkage is below 2%.

The Poplin weave (plain 1/1) provides a uniform, smooth surface with high mechanical strength – optimal for solid dyeing and the production of corporate uniforms.

Component properties:

  • 35% cotton (Co): hygroscopicity – absorbs sweat, ensuring wearing comfort; breathability; resistance to burning (does not melt); no static electricity

  • 65% polyester (Pes): hydrophobicity – low moisture absorption (clothing stays clean longer); resistance to friction and abrasion; dimensional stability in washing; low shrinkage

The combination of both fibers eliminates the main disadvantages of each individually. The result is a work fabric with industrial strength and sufficient comfort for all-day use.

What is a strong fabric for work clothes? TC in weights of 195–245 g/m² provides resistance to abrasion and intense mechanical friction – sufficient for most industrial applications. For extreme conditions (welding, working with fire), cotton drill (100% Co, 220–380 g/m², twill weave) with flame-retardant finish is used.

Workwear fabric weights - how to choose

Sapor Textile offers TC fabrics in two ranges: light (108 g/m²) for corporate uniforms and heavy (195–245 g/m²) for industrial workwear. The weight determines the application and durability – there is no single optimal weight for all uses.

108 g/m² – light variant (shirts, uniforms, corporate wear)

  • Purpose: work and corporate shirts, uniforms, catering apparel, medical clothing
  • Width: 148–150 cm
  • Shrinkage: below 2%
  • Characteristics: light, breathable, comfortable for all-day wear; meets standard PN-P-84525:1998
195 / 215 / 245 g/m² – heavy variants (overalls, work trousers)
  • Purpose: work overalls, work trousers, work jackets, clothing for intensive use conditions
  • Width: 148–150 cm
  • 245 g/m²: heaviest variant, used where maximum abrasion resistance is required
  • Industrial washing: up to 85°C (industrial version); meets PN-EN ISO 13688:2013-12

What is the best material for work trousers? TC 215–245 g/m² in Poplin weave – high friction resistance at knees and seat, low shrinkage, easy maintenance.

Applications - for which industries and types of clothing

Workwear fabric from Sapor Textile’s offer reaches 6 market segments. Each application has an optimal weight assigned.

Work and Corporate Shirts (108 g/m²)

Poplin TC 108 g/m² – the standard for corporate shirts in production plants, institutions, and services. The light weight ensures comfort during all-day work. Available in a full palette of corporate colors (95% from stock in 7 days).
Uniforms and Service Apparel (116–195 g/m²)
low shrinkage (<0.8%) and color fastness after multiple washes - crucial properties for uniforms, where appearance must remain unchanged throughout the season of use.
Industrial Overalls and Work Trousers (195–245 g/m²)
higher weight and abrasion resistance – for construction, industry, mechanics, and logistics. An alternative to drill fabric in facilities where fire resistance is not required
Catering and Medical Apparel (116–195 g/m²)
industrial washing up to 85°C (industrial version) – a requirement for the food and medical industries. The hydrophobic properties of polyester reduce the absorption of fats and liquids during work.
Corporate Tenders and Public Procurement for PPE
what is the name of workwear fabric in tenders? TC or polycotton – with Moratex certificate and PN-P-84525 + PN-EN ISO 13688 documentation. Sapor Textile fulfills tender orders from 100 linear meters with a complete set of normative documents.

Sapor Textile cooperates directly with factories in China (James Fabric) and Turkey (Guldogan) – supplying shirt, blouse, and workwear fabrics without commercial intermediaries.
The minimum order quantity for fabrics from Sapor Textile’s warehouse is 100 linear meters. Orders for individual dyeing or custom designs (personalized production) require a minimum of 1000 linear meters.
Orders from Sapor Textile’s warehouse in Rzgów are fulfilled within 1-2 business days. Individual dyeing or personalized production takes 30–60 business days, depending on the scope of the order. Sample delivery in Poland: 1–2 business days.
Yes. Sapor Textile provides OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certificates, ISO documents from the manufacturer’s factory, and technical fabric passports, often accredited by the Polish Textile Institute, upon request. Certificates are required, among others, in public tenders and workwear orders.
Yes. Sapor Textile offers the production of fabrics with individual designs – digital and rotary printing (min. 100 linear meters) and yarn-dyed fabrics according to the client’s design (min. 1000 linear meters). Our in-house design department develops designs on commission.

Sapor Textile produces and supplies cotton and blended fiber fabrics in six categories: solid-colored fabrics (100% Co, CVC, TC, Co/El), yarn-dyed fabrics (checks, stripes, dobby), digitally and rotary printed fabrics, workwear fabrics (TC 116–245 g/m²), blouse fabrics with elastane, and knits.
