Three methods of introducing color to apparel fabric

Color in apparel fabric can be introduced at three stages of the production process. Each method produces a different visual effect, different color fastness, and different design possibilities.
1. Piece-dyed — piece dyeing (solid-colored)
Fabric woven from raw or bleached yarn, then dyed entirely. Result: uniform color across the entire surface without pattern. Possibility of dyeing in a precisely specified Pantone or RAL shade — guarantees color repeatability between batches.
2. Yarn-dyed
Yarns dyed before weaving, then woven into the fabric structure according to the designed repeat. Stripes, checks, herringbone, and dobby patterns are created directly on the loom — color penetrates through the entire thickness of the thread, not just the surface. Color fastness higher than in printing, washing resistance >60°C.
Printed — fabric printing

Color pattern applied to finished fabric using digital printing (inkjet, high resolution) or rotary printing (industrial screen printing). Enables any graphics — flowers, geometry, abstraction, company logo printing. Substrates: 100% Co and CVC, 97/3 Co/Ea.

Sapor Textile offers all three variants in one collection, on consistent weave bases (poplin, twill, sateen, oxford, dobby) and with uniform weight parameters.

Solid-colored fabrics — Pantone, Long Lasting, and color spectrum

The weight of cotton apparel fabric ranges from 90 to 250 g/m² — the choice depends on application and season. Too low a weight for a formal shirt will produce a see-through effect; too high for a summer blouse — thermal discomfort.

Available parameters of solid-colored fabrics:

  • 100% Co: weights 85–170 g/m², weaves — poplin, twill, sateen, oxford, dobby, herringbone; yarn 70/2 and 80/2 Two-ply
  • CVC 55/45: 100–110 g/m²
  • CVC 60/40: 105–120 g/m²
  • CO/EL 97/3: 100–130 g/m², color on elastic stretch base
  • Width: 148–152 cm — industrial format for shirt cutting

Individual Pantone/RAL dyeing: min. 1,000 running meters per color. Dyeing from stock (95% of colors from the collection): delivery in 7 working days from Rzgów.

Long Lasting White / Jet Black — premium color versions of white and black with enhanced whiteness fastness and depth of black; intended for corporate apparel and premium ready-to-wear requiring repeatability in subsequent seasons.

Yarn-dyed fabrics — stripes, checks, dobby, herringbone

Yarn-dyed is a segment of colors built into the fabric structure during weaving. The Sapor Textile collection includes four component groups:
Composition Number of patterns Weight Weave Individual MOQ
CVC 55/45 >50 patterns 100–110 g/m² Poplin, Dobby stock service
CVC 60/40 >50 patterns 105–120 g/m² Poplin, Dobby 500 running meters/pattern
70% Co / 30% Pes >50 patterns 105–130 g/m² Poplin, Twill 500 running meters/pattern
100% Co >50 patterns 85–170 g/m² multi-weave ~250 running meters/color

Total yarn-dyed collection: over 650 patterns — from classic single-row stripes through multicolor Scottish checks, structural dobby with geometric motif, to herringbone in two- and three-color versions. Each pattern available in at least several color variants.

Printed colored fabrics — digital and rotary

Third color variant: printing on solid-colored or bleached woven base. Sapor Textile uses two techniques:

  • Digital printing — inkjet heads, high resolution, complex multicolor patterns; short preparation time (no forms); before shipment, production coupon acceptance by the client (Delta E color verification, Pantone matching)

  • Rotary printing — screen printing cylinders, industrial production for large volumes; economical for seasonal corporate collections

Printed substrates: 100% Co (poplin, twill, sateen) and CVC (poplin, oxford) — mercerized bases ensure better reactive dye absorption and clearer graphic pattern. The printed fabric collection contains over 1,000 designs (stripes, floral, geometric, abstract, etc.)

Color fastness — mercerization and color-protecting finishes

Color fastness of apparel fabric is measured by resistance to washing (ISO 105-C06), rubbing (ISO 105-X12), and light (ISO 105-B02). Sapor Textile applies two standard processes that enhance these parameters:

Mercerization — alkaline stretching of cotton fiber under controlled tension; increases dye absorption, color fastness, and luster. Mandatory for all 100% Co fabrics in the collection.

Liquid Ammonia (DP 2.5–3.5) — ammonia finish modifying cellulose structure; improves crease resistance and simultaneously stabilizes color under intensive washing conditions — essential for workwear and corporate apparel washed at 60°C.

For colored fabrics intended for formal office wear, additionally available: Easy Care (EC) and Easy to Iron (ETI) — maintenance without loss of color intensity.

Who is a fabric manufacturer?

A fabric manufacturer is a company that commissions the production of textile materials directly to factories or produces them in its own facilities. Sapor Textile cooperates directly with factories in China (James Fabric) and Turkey (Guldogan) — it supplies shirt, blouse, and workwear fabrics without commercial intermediaries.
The minimum order quantity for fabrics from Sapor Textile warehouse is 100 running meters. Orders for individual dyeing or custom pattern (personalized production) require a minimum of 1,000 running meters.
Orders from Sapor Textile warehouse in Rzgów are fulfilled within 1-2 working days. Individual dyeing or personalized production takes 30–60 working days depending on the scope of the order. Sample delivery in Poland: 1–2 working days.
